The pandemic has changed the face of human resources and how we all work. With most companies adopting a Work-From-Home culture, the changes in how we work, where we work, all our concerns for most human resources professionals in every company.

In 2022, most businesses and organisations expect pandemics will end, and everything will be back to normal. Still, whom we work with and what technologies we use change. Today, HR professionals must have in-depth knowledge about the changing phase and the modern work culture.

Although the responsibility of Human Resources (HR) professionals is administering an organisation's most valuable assets, it has undergone a significant shift from hiring, firing, and payroll to more diversified roles. This blog discusses the three primary functions of human resources professionals in 2022. But first, let us look into these new roles of modern HR professionals.

Three New Roles Of Modern HR Professionals

Here are three selective job roles you should look into and include on your HR Career roadmap for 2022 and beyond.

1. Human Machine Teaming Manager

With Artificial Intelligence (AI) innovation, skill-based hiring is on the rise in the human resources field. AI has automated jobs and transformed the labour market. A Human-Machine Teaming Manager is a new job role that will be created to assess the skills of humans who are seamlessly working with machines.

Although degrees don't matter to be hired into this job role, one should have the in-demand skills that giant companies like Google, Apple, etc., seek. So, skill-centred hiring is given more prominence, even in the HR sector, rather than the old way of hiring by checking into qualifications. So this is a significant change that will soon come into practice. It doesn't mean that stuff doesn't matter, but having skills more than qualifications does matter. This means more companies are piloting skills-based hiring.

Skill-based hiring enables employees to focus more on developing their existing skills and provides them with an opportunity for greater career visibility. So, the role of a Human-Machine Teaming Manager is to hunt for talents who have specific skill sets for a particular job and industry.

2. Wellness Officer

Since the pandemic, the concept of well-being has expanded beyond focusing on the individual employee to the entire family. The increase in emphasis on employee wellness creates a new ‘role’ for human resource professionals as “Wellness Officers”.

The wellness officer comes in many titles, such as wellness manager, well-being director, wellness coordinator, wellness specialist, wellness champion, and more to name. The wellness officers report to a company’s top HR or employee benefits executive.

The Wellness Officers/Managers are management-level individuals who lead a company’s wellness efforts. The wellness efforts of an organisation include working to improve the health and well-being of the company and its employees. In addition, the wellness initiatives are linked and integrated with employee benefits plans.

According to a recent report, the role of Wellness Officers is among the top HR positions with the highest percentage increase in compensation. The most important aspect of this job role is it will be created only in large companies. At the same time, the job role of a wellness officer is heavily involved in the planning and coordination of employee benefits, including health insurance, health risk assessments, and on-site biometric screenings to salaried employees.

3. Strategic HR Partner

Strategic HR Partners guarantee their viability and ability to contribute to an organisation. If you are already an HR Manager, you must think of yourself as a strategic partner, whether it is to scale up the role or create a new job role. In this role, an HR person contributes to the development and accomplishment of the organisation.

A Strategic HR Partner is different from an HR Manager. A strategic HR partner's role is to develop and direct an HR plan that supports and drives the organisation's goals. In better words, they bridge the gap between the HR team's work and the management team's mission.

A Strategic HR Partner works in roles as a:
• Strategic Advisor
• Problem Solver
• Coach and Mentor
• Independent Leader

What is the role of a Strategic HR Partner?

A strategic HR partner works with the company's senior leadership team to develop and communicate the organisation's strategy. It is a high-level role that requires overall supervision. Focusing on the big picture, a Strategic HR Partner must collaborate with the HR department and consult with the leadership team to ensure everyone is driving in the same direction.

Conclusion

A Human Resources professional is a glue that binds the teams and organisations together. From behind-the-scenes administration to internal communication, leadership training, and recruiting and onboarding programs, HR plays a critical role in building a company's employee engagement culture and, ultimately, driving business performance. Therefore, if you want to be a successful HR professional, you must learn-how to become a human resources professional.

The HR professional contributes to an organisation by constantly assessing the effectiveness of the HR function. So, as an HR professional, you can either expand in your job roles or take up any of the above-mentioned new job roles, such as a Human Machine Teaming Manager, Wellness Officer or Strategic Partner, to make a difference.

The HR professionals who understand the above roles lead their organisations to strategically utilise employees to serve business goals, organisation development, talent management and development.
